If you are interested in reducing your dependence on visual aids and experiencing greater visual freedom, the EVO Visian ICL may be right for you! At Wolstan & Goldberg Eye Associates, we are proud to offer this new and unique ICL to patients who qualify.
What is an ICL?
An ICL is an implantable collamer lens. The ICL procedure is a vision correction procedure that can help you significantly reduce your reliance on glasses and contact lenses.
During the ICL procedure, your eye surgeon will carefully place and position an artificial, implantable collamer lens in your eye. Once in the eye, the ICL will rest behind the iris, which is the colored part of your eye, and in front of your natural lens.
The ICL procedure is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day of the procedure. Many people notice an immediate improvement in their vision following the procedure. However, it can take a few days to weeks for you to experience the maximum potential of the EVO Visian ICL.
In addition to being a relatively quick procedure, the ICL procedure can provide you with clear vision with minimal recovery time. Your eye doctor will likely ask you to take some time to rest following surgery.
However, you will likely be able to resume many of your everyday activities within days of the procedure! Although vision correction with an ICL is intended to be permanent, your eye doctor can remove an ICL at any time if needed.
What is the EVO Visian ICL, and How Does it Work?
The EVO Visian ICL is one of the newest and most advanced ICLs available! The EVO Visian ICL assists your natural lens in refracting the light that enters your eye so that you can experience clear and crisp vision.
In order for your brain to produce a clear image for you to see, the light that enters your eye must be refracted so that it lands directly on your retina. When you have a refractive error, your natural eye, including the cornea and the lens, does not accurately refract the light to land on the retina.
Once the EVO Visian ICL is implanted, it will refract the light appropriately, and you will experience clear vision without the assistance of visual aids! The EVO Visian ICL is an artificial lens that can enhance the quality of your vision beyond the capabilities of your natural lens.
The EVO Visian ICL is made of collamer, which is a biocompatible material. The lens is safe and offers unique benefits.
Beyond correcting your sight so you can experience clear vision without the need for visual aids, the EVO Visian ICL also offers UV light filtration. Thanks to this feature, your eyes will be protected from the harmful rays produced by the sun.
How Do I Know if I am a Candidate for the EVO Visian ICL?
The only way to determine whether or not you will be a good candidate for the EVO Visian ICL is to visit your eye doctor at Wolstan & Goldberg Eye Associates for a consultation. At this consultation, your eye doctor will evaluate various factors, like the health of your eyes, your vision, and your vision goals.
The EVO Visian ICL can correct vision in people who are nearsighted or people who have nearsightedness with astigmatism. However, it cannot correct other types of refractive errors like farsightedness.
During this evaluation, your eye doctor will thoroughly examine and take measurements of your eyes. In general, some factors that may make someone a good candidate for the EVO Visian ICL are:
- Stable glasses prescription
- Overall good eye health
- Overall good general health
- Nearsighted or have nearsightedness with astigmatism
The EVO ICL may be a good option for permanent vision correction for those who did not qualify for other methods due to having thin corneas. Since the EVO Visian ICL procedure does not require any alteration of the cornea tissue, the thickness of your cornea is not a factor that will determine your candidacy for this procedure.
Who May Not be a Good Candidate for the EVO Visian ICL?
There are some factors that may hinder your ability to qualify as a candidate for the EVO Visian ICL procedure. The only person that can determine your candidacy is your eye doctor, so it’s best to visit them for a consultation if you are considering this life-changing procedure.
Generally, here are some factors that may make someone not a good candidate for the EVO Visian ICL:
- Farsightedness
- If you are pregnant or nursing
- If you are under the age of twenty-one or over the age of forty-five
Why Choose the EVO Visian ICL?
There are many benefits to choosing to have an ICL procedure and even more benefits for choosing the EVO Visian ICL specifically.
Here are some of the benefits of choosing the EVO Visian ICL:
- Better night vision
- Clear, sharp vision
- Reduced dependency on contact lenses and glasses
- It does not cause dry eye syndrome or worsen the current condition
- Provides UV protection
Beyond the many benefits listed above, one other significant advantage of choosing the EVO Visian ICL is that it does not require an additional laser procedure prior to surgery. In procedures that utilize a different ICL, a laser procedure called a laser peripheral iridotomy is needed prior to ICL surgery to help prevent any issues with eye pressure during the recovery period.
A laser peripheral iridotomy, or LPI, is a procedure where your eye doctor uses a laser to make a tiny hole in the iris, which is the colored part of your eye. An IPL can help ensure that eye pressure levels stay within normal range after the procedure.
The new and advanced technology of the EVO Visian ICL eradicates this hurdle. Without the additional laser procedure requirement, you are able to schedule the procedure earlier and experience clear vision sooner!
